Class was challenging, overwhelming, and extremely enlightening all at the same time today. Pastor Mark helped to cultivate within us a broader perspective on building an organization from the ground up. Of course, he inserted many helpful wisdom nuggets as well. The point in which really I was most stirred up and convicted came when Rev Whitlock began to speak about community assessment. A concept that requires elaborate research, V.I.P. relationships, and burning the midnight oil to stay ahead of the pack. Community assessment really deals with a meticulous spiritual assessment of a certain congregation of people. The spirit of Orange County is just as desperate as the spirit of LA county, they just have different needs. The key then becomes to understand the community and interact in the community so well that we not only solve a current problem, but we prevent a future problem. Research is the key to resources, and resources fuel the mission,
I must acknowledge our special guest, Dr Robert J Watkins, who poured out tons of financial knowledge and biblical principles for success. He drew out a vital point from Ecclesiastes 11:2, which instructs us to have at least 7 investments, or as Dr Watkins put it “7 Streams of income”. How many do you have? If you are missing 1 or 5 like me, the only solution is to do your research and begin to build the pond not just fish in it.
